Opening Change Counter means you accept the terms set out on this page. If any part of them does not work for you or your organisation, please stop using the website. They cover the calculator itself, every supporting page, the CSV files it generates and the A4 report it sends to your printer.
How you may use the site
Personal and commercial cash counting are both fine, provided the purpose is lawful. Responsibility for the quantities you enter, the physical count that produced them and any decision taken on the result stays with you. You must not attempt to disrupt the service, defeat its security, inject harmful code, harvest it in a way that degrades availability for others, or present it to third parties as a service of your own.
What the calculated figure means
The tool multiplies the numbers it is given. Perfect arithmetic on flawed input still yields a flawed answer, so a wrong currency, a quantity typed twice, a miscounted stack or an expected balance that quietly includes card takings will all produce a total you should not act on. Check every row before the figure supports a deposit, a closeout, a report or a ledger entry. Our common counting errors guide describes the recurring causes.
Denomination data
Currency sets are supplied for convenience and cover commonly circulating notes and coins. They will not include every commemorative issue, withdrawn series, regional variant or rare piece, and issuing authorities change what circulates without notice. Where a value matters, confirm it against an official source. The Other cash field should represent genuine physical value only.
Saved counts, exports and printouts
Saved counts sit in local browser storage on the device you used. Retaining any record you need is your responsibility. Reinstalling a browser, replacing a device, browsing in an incognito window, clearing site data or hitting a storage limit can all remove them, and no server backup exists for us to restore. Review each printed sheet and CSV file before filing it or passing it to anyone else.
Ownership
The Change Counter name, visual design, written content and source code are protected by applicable intellectual property law. Using the output of your own counts however you like is expected and encouraged. Reproducing, republishing or reselling substantial parts of the website without written permission is not.
Availability of the service
Features, denomination sets and guide content may be changed, paused or withdrawn as the project develops. We make no promise of uninterrupted access or of compatibility with every browser and device combination, and the site is offered on an as available basis so far as the law allows.
Limits of responsibility
Change Counter provides no accounting, tax, banking, audit or legal advice. To the extent permitted by law we accept no liability for losses arising from a counting decision, a variance, a deposit discrepancy or a record produced with this tool. Updates and questions
These terms may be revised as functionality or legal requirements change, and continuing to use the site after a revision indicates acceptance of the current version. Write to hello@changecounter.org or use the contact page if anything here needs clarifying.
